The Haas Brothers
The Haas Brothers—Nikolai and Simon—are American sculptors known for their eclectic designs. They were born in 1984 in Santa Monica, California, and spent their childhood in Texas. They’re siblings of actor Lukas Haas and have done commissions for high-profile celebrities including Tobey Maguire, Lady Gaga and Donatella Versace. That work led to the launch of their Los Angeles studio in 2010 and their first museum exhibition, which was at The Bass Museum of Art in Miami from 2018 to 2019. Other museums that display Haas Brothers art include the ArtScience Museum in Singapore, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Smithsonian Design Museum. The Haas Brothers expanded their designs to include luxury home goods, collaborating with L’OBJET in 2019. Some of the items in this collection include teapots and tureens inspired by the classic children’s book “Where the Wild Things Are.” Other items from the Haas Brothers and L’OBJET include fuzzy throws and pillows and delicate dinnerware. The Haas Brothers also collaborate with Monkeybiz, which is a women’s collective of bead workers located in South Africa. They also work with a group of female artisans in Lost Hills, an agricultural town in California where jobs for women are scarce. Dubbed the “Haas Sisters,” the women worked with the Haas Brothers to create Microfreaks, a line of small, colorful beaded creatures. You can find the Haas Brothers sculptures available for sale at Sotheby’s Home.
