Mario Bellini

Born in 1935, Mario Bellini is an internationally renowned Italian architect and designer with a long and distinguished career that spans several decades. He is the winner of many prestigious architecture awards, including the Medaglia D’Oro, given by the president of the Italian Republic. Noteworthy designs include the Milan Convention Center and Tokyo Design Center, and his industrial design work and furniture can be found in major art museums around the world. After studying in Milan, a young Bellini founded his architectural office in 1963. He served as chief design consultant for Olivetti until 1991, creating desk accessories like typewriters and calculators that are considered iconic today. He acted as a designer and consultant for notable furniture brands like Cassina, Vitra, B&B Italia, Flos and even Renault and Yamaha. A forefather of modern technological style, Bellini’s highly original forms meld functionality with finesse, whether they are office accessories, accent chairs, table lamps or lounge chairs. His designs are united by a technical sophistication and inventive use of luxurious materials that change the way we live and work today.
