The Danish industrial designer Kasper Salto is best known for his innovative furniture designs. As the grandson of leading Danish ceramicist Axel Salto, and son to an artist mother and architect father, design was instilled at a very young age. He trained as a cabinet maker in the workshop of Jørgen Wolff and graduated school with a master of arts. After lecturing at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, he opened his own design studio in 1998 in the same city. His refreshingly sleek and simple collection of furniture, which includes accent chairs, side tables, dining tables, pendant lights, and reading lamps, takes traditional Danish forms and simplifies them to their essence. Kasper draws inspiration from forms in nature and believes that furniture should be adaptive, practical, and without superfluous decoration. A recipient of the Finn Juhl Prize and the Danish Design Award, Kasper became a member of the Danish Design Council in 2015.
