Jonathan Rachman Design

Jonathan Rachman is one of San Francisco's most celebrated interior designers. His work has been published in ELLE Decor, Vogue, The English Home, Travel + Leisure, Harper’s Bazaar, Dolce, House Beautiful and Luxe, among others. Rachman draws on his experience living in different parts of the world in order to bring together the glassware, leather products, clutches, bowls, candlesticks, scarves, pillows, tablecloths, coasters, chairs, tables, mirrors, sculptures, hats and many other items that are part of his collection. Born in Sumatra, he developed an appreciation of Indonesia’s natural beauty and the attention given to detail in furniture, textiles and sculpture by his country's artisans. An education in Switzerland enabled him to travel throughout Europe, and the time he spent living in Paris allowed him to visit flea markets and antique shops, where he developed a sharp eye for curation and collecting. After he opened his antique and floral design shop in downtown San Francisco, designers and other customers would regularly ask him for advice. This led him to start his own design firm, Jonathan Rachman Design. He skillfully brings his understanding of European and Asian aesthetics to his collection, and his knowledge of languages and other countries means he knows just where and how to buy at galleries, markets and auctions around the globe. Rachman is particularly known for taking his clients on buying trips abroad, where his knowledge and experience play a vital role in finding the best and most unique items. Rachman’s store on San Francisco's Market Street, opened in 2015, is a kaleidoscope of eccentric and eclectic curiosities, along with his own collections of leather goods, linens and glassware. His eye for the unusual as well as his ability to construct striking interiors make him a sought-after designer on the West Coast and beyond.
