Andi Kovel

Andi Kovel is an artist known for her innovation and expertise with hand-blown glass. In 1999, she founded Esque, a studio that specializes in creative hand-blown lighting and accessories, with fellow artist Justin Parker. Andi Kovel’s handmade glass items include lamps, pendant lighting, vases, bowls, alchemy sets, pitchers, decanters, drinkware, carafes, cloches, paperweights, decorative accent pieces, and more. The pieces have a modern aesthetic and are designed to be practical and functional as well as beautiful. Kovel's eco-friendly practice combines elegance with contemporary flair and a touch of playfulness, resulting in unique pieces that stand out for their originality. The artist is known for incorporating unusual shapes and color combinations into her work. Although trained and highly skilled in traditional glass-blowing techniques, Kovel is also known for using modern, environmentally conscious methods to produce her artwork, such as using remelted glass for new pieces and using wind energy to blow the glass. Her influences include Marcel Wanders, Gaetano Pesce, and Emmanuel Babled, but her work is highly original and fills a unique niche in the blown-glass industry. Along with abstract shapes, Kovel’s work often shows influences from nature, as can be seen in items like the Log Light and the Anatomical Heart Vase.
