Van Cleef & Arpels

In 1925, Van Cleef & Arpels won the grand prize at the International Exposition of Modern Industrial and Decorative Arts for their stunning rose bracelet designs made from rubies and diamonds, a fact that is indicative of this luxury brand's enduring dedication to beauty. Van Cleef & Arpels specializes in French jewelry, timeless gemstone engagement rings, vintage watches and fine perfumes. Founded in 1906 in Paris by Alfred Van Cleef and his father-in-law Salomon Arpel, Van Cleef & Arpels creates fine jewelry pieces inspired by nature, fairy tales and whimsy. Alfred Van Cleef was the son of a diamond cutter, and his family lineage has a long history in the jewelry and gemstone industry. Now a worldwide name in design, the Van Cleef & Arpels moniker can be found in five continents across the globe. Their design house, referred to as the Maison, aims to combine the beauty of precious stones and metals into magical scenes that come to life and tell a story in each piece. The Maison’s designs evoke imagery and movement in each vintage engagement ring, necklace, pendant, watch and more. Carefully crafted, each piece tells a story or “histoire,” often based in folklore from around the world, from Islamic-inspired geometries to Shakespearian characters and mythical creatures. Several of the Van Cleef & Arpels design series are coveted by collectors, including the Ballerina brooches, Zip necklace, La Boutique designs and Alhambra jewelry. One of their more famous innovations was the Serti Mysterieux or “Mystery Setting,” where Masion designers created a way to invisibly bend the prongs in gemstone settings.
