Born in Manchester, England, Timothy Oulton’s early years were spent in his father’s antique shop, Halo Antiques. When he was older, his father sent him off to Ampleforth College, and the English leather furniture and antiques he lived with there would have a strong influence on his later work. Oulton thought he would be a banker, but upon returning home to the family business, he found that his passion for furniture and design only grew. Eventually, in 1990, he took over the company. Feeling that his future was not in antique dealing, Oulton opted to take the business in a different direction, one which melded his interest in design with his love of timeless and traditional forms. He would re-invent antique pieces from a modern perspective and sell them on the wholesale market. In 2008, Oulton opened his first gallery in Los Angeles, under the retail brand Timothy Oulton. Other stores followed in Hong Kong, London and New York. His collection includes furniture and furnishings for virtually every room in the home, including sectionals, sofas, armchairs, ottomans, side tables, consoles, bookcases, dining sets, sideboards, desks and more. It also contains lighting — chandeliers, table lamps, floor lamps and sconces — as well as rugs, mirrors, wall art and decorative objects. Oulton’s creations can be found in stores in over a dozen different countries and on six continents.
