Rolex

Rolex is one of the most iconic luxury watch brand names in the world, made famous by its long and storied history of innovation, exquisite craftsmanship and (in no small part) associations with important figures and characters – including Winston Churchill, Steve McQueen and, perhaps most recognizably, James Bond. Hans Wildorf founded a timepiece distribution store in London in 1905, but desired to create a watch that could be worn on one’s wrist – a departure from the then standard pocket watch. He came up with the name Rolex, and a premier watch-making dynasty was born. Rather than focus on extravagant design, Rolex initially concentrated on precision and quality – an approach that ultimately led the brand to be the first in the world to receive the Swiss Certificate of Chronometric Precision. Rolex relocated to Geneva, Switzerland, in 1919, a locale renowned for its watch and timepiece production, where it continues to be the place every Rolex is designed and manufactured. In 1926, the brand made history again by creating the first-ever waterproof and dustproof wristwatch, named Oyster, and in 1931, invented the first watch with a perpetual movement, eliminating the need for winding. These historic innovations were just the first steps in over a century-long history of invention and revolutionary design. Many Rolex series have become iconic in their own right, such as the Datejust, Submariner and Explorer, to name a few. Made from materials that are rigorously screened for quality and performance, and sophisticatedly designed – from movement to case to bracelet – Rolex will always be a timeless accessory and an invaluable addition to any collection.
