Plexi-Craft

A King George desk with graceful, tapered legs and a starphire glass writing surface. An elegantly simple waterfall console table stylishly formed from a single piece of material. An intricately designed spider-back chair with a lush leatherette cushion. All fashioned from beautiful, crystal-clear acrylic, these are just a few of the offerings from Plexi-Craft, a New York-based company. Since it was founded in the 1960s, Plexi-Craft has been producing handcrafted acrylic furniture and furnishings. The company is the lone survivor among nearly 20 acrylic manufacturers that operated there in the 1960s and 1970s, and it has grown to be the largest and oldest manufacturer of acrylic in the United States. Each piece made by Plexi-Craft can be scaled, modified or customized to match the vision of the discerning client. A prospective customer’s simple sketch, specific function or written description can be translated into a unique item that becomes the center of conversation in any room it occupies. Pieces can be customized according to dimension, thickness, color, configuration, angles, shapes and curves. Options such as glass tops, cushions, monograms, engravings and wheels can be added. The talented design team can even reproduce a vintage acrylic item or an item that was originally made in another material such as wood, metal or ceramic. The firm was originally located in the Chelsea area of Manhattan, and all custom work is still done exclusively in New York City. A wide variety of tables, seating options, desks, vanities, cribs, pedestals, bar carts and accessories make up the collection. The company even produces a chess set, backgammon table and game table in striking acrylic.
