Odegard is renowned for its fine carpets, which are crafted by hand from Tibetan wool. The company was founded in 1987 by Stephanie Odegard and is currently headquartered in New York City. Currently, Odegard has several collections in styles ranging from the modern Geometric & Minimal collection to the traditional Classical collection. Odegard produces custom carpets for its clients; nearly every aspect of the carpet’s shape, size and color can be crafted to the client’s desired specifications. Some of the company’s commissions include the Greenwich Hotel in New York City and the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles. Each Odegard carpet is handmade by Tibetan and Nepalese artisans, who utilize traditional crafting techniques such as senna loop weaving to produce each piece. The wool comes from the Tibetan chenylok sheep, which lives 14,000 feet above sea level and has a diet that results in lanolin-rich long-staple wool. The lanolin in the wool is what makes Odegard carpets highly stain-resistant. These carpets are yarn-dyed for lasting color with organic materials such as walnut husks and indigo. Odegard rugs come in solid colors and patterns and are available in a wide range of sizes, from small 4’ x 6’ rugs to large 26’ x 47’ rugs.
