Mecox Gardens was established in 1996, several years after founder Mac Hoak moved to New York City. After spending his childhood in North Carolina, earning degrees in economics and banking from the University of North Carolina and the University of Virginia respectively, and spending ten years working within the finance industry, Hoak abandoned his well-established career to pursue what he truly loved to do. Mac Hoak was a passionate collector of antiques and high-quality furniture, which led him to open his first Mecox Gardens store in 1996. With dedication, Hoak’s company was destined for success, and the brand quickly grew to include stores in several more locations. Over the years, Hoak developed what has come to be known as the “Mecox look,” which is the principle that guides the company as they select new pieces to showcase in their collections. This look tends to be a refreshing combination of several design trends, incorporating organic materials and rustic touches into otherwise sleek, polished, modern designs. Some of their most popular items to date include their selection of coffee tables, mid-century dining chairs, and unique abstract stools.
