Kartell, founded in 1949 by chemical engineer Giulio Castelli and his wife, Anna Castelli Ferrieri, an architect and designer, is now operated by Claudio Luti, Chairman, CEO, and President in Milan, Italy. A powerful force in Italian design, Kartell utilizes the greatest innovations in plastics and other pliable materials, having introduced the first injection-molded furniture in the 1960s. Kartell’s furniture offerings are unique and easily recognizable by the emotion they evoke and their unequaled craftsmanship. The company museum, located in Noviglio, Milan, captures present and past history and trends in furniture design, and highlights these with exhibitions and displays. The many individual stores offer displays and product for the discerning customer, and are located throughout the world. Many iconic furniture pieces were innovated by Anna Castelli Ferrieri, including the 1954 Lamp, 1963 Stool, Chair, and Stoppino magazine rack. Most presently, Philippe Starck designed the famous “Louis Ghost” and “Victorian Ghost” chairs in 2002, which are not only remarkable pieces of art, but functional and comfortable as well. Kartell furniture is unmistakable and undeniably iconic, and collected throughout the world.
