John Widdicomb has been a major player in the interior design community of the United States for more than a century. The furniture company was founded in 1897 by John Widdicomb himself, after his mantel company Widdicomb Mantel Co. failed. The company’s first products included fireplace mantels and quality interior woodwork. John Widdicomb soon changed gears to focus on producing reasonably priced bedroom sets and kitchen cabinets. In 1901, the brand expanded its design reach further by introducing a line heavily influenced by the Modern movement taking place in Europe. Around this time the company also began landing large orders from major companies like Singer Sewing Machine Co., which commissioned cabinets for more than 200,000 sewing machines. Throughout the 20th-century, John Widdicomb’s style continued to develop, frequently drawing inspiration from European furniture trends and traditions. Today, John Widdicomb offers many luxury furniture options including extension dining room tables, elegant credenza buffets, antique-inspired end tables, tall chests of drawers and dressers, French style dining chairs, coffee tables with organically curved tops, and vintage mirrors, just to name a few items.
