John Himmel Decorative Arts

Featured in Architectural Digest and Veranda, John Himmel Decorative Arts aims to create pieces that work equally well with period antiques and in modern, minimalist rooms. Comfortable and eye-catching, Himmel’s designs can form the focal point of a room or create a welcoming backdrop for sharing conversation beside a cozy fire. The handwoven rope furniture offered by John Himmel uses many of the same techniques as French designers Adrien Audoux and Frida Minet, whose mid-century modern furniture rank among his major influences. A supporter of sustainable design, John Himmel Decorative Arts works with locals in Indonesia’s Madura Islands to grow and harvest palm fronds. The fibers are hand-braided into a flat rope and woven onto hardwood frames for long-lasting durability. John Himmel’s Mirror Furniture Collection is inspired by 1940s French designers Jacques Dumond, Ander Arbus and Serge Roche, and uses 17th-century techniques to turn clear glass into elegant mirrored furniture with a richly inviting look. Along with wall mirrors and mirrored furniture in multiple colors, textures and designs, John Himmel dressers, armoires and tables lend refinement and a touch of mystery to the simplest room. John Himmel works closely with designers to create custom pieces that can meet even the most unusual requests; the firm can also customize any of their collection pieces to designer specifications.
