Gary Cruz Studio

Gary Cruz is truly a student of design, renowned for his brilliant rugs. He displays an inherent recognition of the guiding principles that transform a room from plain to phenomenal, and his focus on colors, patterns and shapes gives character and versatility to his vast collection of hand-knotted rugs. It was this keen appreciation for design, coupled with his training in architecture, that led him to develop Gary Cruz Studio in 2010. His earliest inspirations came during his formative years in a fishing village and art colony along the Texas Gulf Coast. Today, he draws on the wonders of nature, travel, music, and anything else that piques his interest to devise intriguing patterns that ultimately become his striking area rugs. All of those are woven in Nepal. His collections range from quirky to polished to contemporary, and this well-rounded approach inspires many of his clients to order custom designs that adhere to their own personal tastes. Cruz earned his architecture degree from the University of Texas at Austin and was also a participant in the celebrated AIM Program at the Bronx Museum of the Arts in 1996. Cruz is also an artist whose exhibits have appeared at the Carriage House at Islip Art Museum, the Bronx Museum of the Arts and the Drawing Center. In addition, he has created interior design concepts throughout the country, including a LEED-certified property in Greenwich, CT, and a cozy Sag Harbor, NY, cottage prominently featured in Hamptons Cottages & Gardens Magazine.
