Edward Ferrell + Lewis Mittman

Operating under the company Ferrell Mittman, Edward Ferrell + Lewis Mittman is a furniture brand known for its fine upholstered seating. The company also produces case goods and other furnishings. Ferrell Mittman was founded in 1953 under the name Lewis Mittman. Originally headquartered in New York, the company now makes its home in High Point, North Carolina. Edward Ferrell + Lewis Mittman furnishings are crafted with time-honored techniques such as eight-way hand tying, which is a labor-intensive method of securing springs to the furniture frame. Although it is a time-consuming process, the result is a piece of furniture that’s not only incredibly durable but comfortable as well. This quality craftsmanship can be seen in pieces like the Bracken House club armchairs, which are sold as a set of two. These traditional Empire-style chairs have tufted velvet upholstery and nailhead detailing for a regal look, set against dark stained arms and legs. Another iconic chair from this brand is the Curule chair. This contemporary Neoclassical chair has sabre legs and is partially gilt with a gold acanthus leaf decoration. An example of the brand’s case goods is the Smitty bookcase. This mahogany wood piece is nearly 105 inches high, with antique brass hardware and a top light to gently illuminate the shelves.
