Mitchell Hill is the brainchild of two creative minds, Michael Mitchell and Tyler Hill. Mitchell grew up with deep roots in the South but took on the design world of New York City before returning home to develop his dream. Besides being a natural businessman, Mitchell effortlessly marries fun-sophistication with the needs of their diverse clientele. Tyler Hill yields from the great state of Texas. His travels, life experiences, numerous educational endeavors and remarkable eye for design ensured a bright future in interior design. The duo are diligent about searching for the right product for clients, consistently going for the fresh and unexpected.

What inspired this career path for you?
Our love for all things aesthetically pleasing mixed with a passion for collecting one-of-a-kind works of art. Charleston provided the best landscape for the type of work we do, with its blend of rich historic backgrounds and a modern way of life.

What is your go-to source for inspiration?
Travel has always served as the most inspiring platform in our journey. Everything from finding great pieces, to channeling our favorite places around the world — in our product and interior designs — there’s something about the journey and bringing it back with you and your work that inspires us every day.

Tell us about your creative process.
The client. It is at the forefront of our strategy whilst curating art for our gallery or sourcing furnishings for a client. We try to create a happy medium where our expertise and their vision live in symbiosis.

Describe your style in 6 words or less.
Eclectic. Vibrant. Luxurious.

What’s a staple in your toolkit?
A notepad is a must! You never know when an idea pops in your head!

Who do you look up to in the design world?
Dorothy Draper is a master of color and mixing prints which we have always admired in her work. The ambiances she creates are inspired.

If you could design a space for anyone, what kind of space and for whom would it be?
Reese Witherspoon’s office. Normally, we go residential, but we find it challenging and fun to recreate a “home-like” or “livable” space at work. We love her style and think it would be a pleasure to work with such a southern belle!

Tell us your favorite design-related word, phrase, or quote.
Scale is everything.

Which design blog, website, TV show, or magazine would you be lost without?
Architectural Digest, Elle Décor, Lonny, Garden & Gunn, Design Hunting
