Brett Beldock, a former fashion designer and founder of Brett Design, has a crisp, creative but off-beat approach to design. Brett uses fabric, texture, material, and color to define each product and project, producing a sophisticated, innovative, and luxurious image in each room.
What inspired this career path for you?
When I was a fashion designer in my twenties, a good friend asked me to redesign her townhouse — it was sink or swim from there!
What is your go-to source for inspiration?
Art, photography, and fashion; I look at paintings and sculpture, and I can always see other things morphing from them. I can see a handle on a handbag and reimagine it as the corner of a cabinet.
Tell us about your creative process.Â
I usually go to art shows and antique shows for ideas. I take lots of photos and I come back to my desk and begin to sketch on trace, if I am doing wallpaper. I also go to my house at the beach with my tear sheets and photos, and I paint.
