Tatum Kendrick is the founder and creative director of Studio Hus and You’re So Baby, a lifestyle concept shop with a boldly feminine point of view. She believes she was put on this earth to create livable spaces filled with interest, soul, and spirit. Collaborating with numerous talented artists, Tatum and her design team create and curate one-of-a-kind pieces, some of which can be found exclusively on Viyet.

What inspired this career path for you?
A fascination with how environments have the power to change the way we think and feel. My love of human psychology, sociology, and design…it’s a perfect trine for me.

What is your go-to source for inspiration?
Fashion…the expression in clothing and colors and textures is an endless inspiration. Travel is the other. As they say, a change is as good as a rest, and there is nothing like getting out of your everyday to reinvigorate your eyes and creativity.

Tell us about your creative process.
I drink a lot of coffee…I put on loud music and try to get out of my own way and not overthink things. I think the best design comes from not being afraid of being “wrong”, which takes courage.

Describe your style in 6 words or less.
Sexy, tailored, masculine, playful

What’s a staple in your tool kit?
Black and white striped fabric

Who do you look up to in the design world?
Carlo Mollino, Dimore Studio, Ilse Crawford

If you could design a space for anyone, what kind of space and for whom would it be?
I’ve been thinking a lot about designing a killer mountain house retreat…with an outdoor bathtub, where you can soak and look at the stars and drink rosé. A place big enough for wild gardens, a skeet shooting range, motocross paths through grassy fields, and hopefully a natural rock quarry that we could convert into a swimming hole.

Tell us your favorite design-related word, phrase, or quote.
Design makes things beautiful, people make it interesting.

Which design blog, website, TV show, or magazine would you be lost without?
World of Interiors

Share a little bit about the pieces you’re consigning on Viyet, e.g., do any have unique back stories, in what kind of space do you hope they end up, etc.?
The pieces are part of my personal collection as well as pieces that I curated for my concept store I launched this year, called “you’re so baby”. I’m calling the concept a “futuristic boudoir”, which to me is a lifestyle store that speaks to the modern-day woman. We carry everything from home to jewelry, lingerie, fashion, and art. I wanted to curate a space that was bold and sexy, and offer things that aren’t typically found in Southern California.

Some of my favorite things are the pillows that we did a collaboration on with Natalie Krim, who is an erotic illustrator. We translated her work and had it hand-embroidered onto vintage French linen pillow cases. They are super sexy and fun.

What do you love about Viyet?
I love Viyet’s elevated offerings and curation of goods. There is always something unique to find.
